Promoting Wellness
As
a nonprofit hospital, Huntington
Hospital is dedicated to providing quality medical care and
outreach services to meet the needs of all those we serve. The
community of Huntington is widely diversified in culture, ethnicity,
age and socioeconomic status. The primary service area of the
Community Outreach department is Altadena, Pasadena, San Marino,
and South Pasadena.
In an effort to increase
the health and wellness of our community, the Community Outreach
department provides a comprehensive schedule of health programs
and services. These community benefits programs include health
education seminars and screenings for breast, colon, and prostate
cancer, Registered Nurse health counseling and screenings at community
centers, preventative services such as flu vaccines, diabetes
education, asthma and obesity management, and other wellness programs.
Our staff is active all year participating in community, church,
and school health fairs and events. Through these staff interactions,
a triennial community needs assessment, and via the hospital community
benefits committee (consisting of community leaders), Huntington
learns about community needs.
To maximize the effectiveness
of community benefit, Community Outreach partners with many community-based
organizations, health clinics and schools. Collaborations optimize
resources, assets, and skills to achieve shared goals in meeting
the needs of the community. Our collaborative partners help us
reach out to our diverse community to provide tools for self-empowerment
and wellness.
